A nice little gem that is worth checking out if you are into quirky little pieces of American industrial history.
The gift shop had a great selection, but the manufacturing area/museum was a bit outdated (in their explanations of history and manufacturing, I mean). Worth the stop for old-fashioned kazoos and knick-knacks to give to friends and family, but don't expect too much from the museum side of the place.
We found many different types of novelty kazoos in addition to several color choices of standard kazoos. The factory still uses the antique hand operated machines during the 17 step production process. You can watch the workers do their part of the process while learning about the history of the factory and the kazoo in general. There is also a small machine that will allow you to make your own metal kazoo if you spend a few dollars to purchase the kit.
Great little shop to visit! I think it would be worth a stop if you're passing through. It is a long time running kazoo factory that employs adults with special needs. It was neat to walk around and learn a little bit about the process of making a kazoo but it was more fun to buy some of the many different varieties. The gift shop was also nice and was run by a very nice gentleman who helped my boys assemble their own kazoo for $3. There was a restroom there also.
Worth a stop - cute little kazoo factory and museum. You can make your own kazoo. What's not to love?
A nice neat place to visit if you are passing through the area and have about 30-60 minutes to spare.
My original motive was to stop and buy a bunch of kazoos for all of the children to enjoy during our latest family get together. While this was a successful endeavor, I was pleasantly surprised at the boutique located in the front of the building and the kazoo shop and museum located in the rear.
